Sarah Butler (Farr) Koopus died on June 14 at her home in Edgecomb, Maine. She was born in Brooklyn, NY, on November 12, 1947, to Dr. Hugh and Barbara A. Butler. She grew up in Rochester, New York, where she attended local schools and graduated from The MacDuffie School in Springfield, MA.
She attended the University of New Hampshire, graduating with a B.A. in Microbiology and furthered her education by attending the Medical Technology Program at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. She was certified as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist. She worked at The Foundation for Blood Research in Scarborough, ME and The University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY from which she retired.
Sarah married her first husband David Farr of Long Lake, NY, on August 27, 1966. The marriage ended in divorce. She married her second Jeff Koopus on August 14, 1982, at their home in Harrison, ME. They moved to Rochester, NY, in 1989 to care for her mother and her in-laws and returned to Maine after retirement.
She was predeceased by her ex-husband David Farr and her parents Hugh and Barbara Butler. She is survived by her husband Jeff Koopus of Edgecomb, ME, her children: Jane Conboy (George) of Rochester, NY, Ryland Koopus of Augusta, ME, and Nick Koopus of Rochester, NY, her granddaughter Kieley (Sam) Tabone and great granddaughter Carmen of Byron, NY, her siblings: Cynthia (Michael) Parti of DelMar CA and Hugh (Melinda) Butler of Easley SC. and her sister-in-law Judy Garrison of Long Lake, NY. She is also survived by many family members and friends for whom she was incredibly grateful.
She loved cats and birds.
A celebration of Sarah’s life will be held at a future date.
