Day 26- When oil tankers catch fire
It was supposed to be a pretty straight forward ride to Mystic today but alas it was not to be. There were a lot of headwinds, lots of hills, and a few gravel bike paths made for mountain bikes, not triathlon and road bikes. But the biggest obstacle was due to a huge oil truck fire they closed the bike lane across the bridge in New London and the only way across was either swim (not an option today) or ride on Route 95 also not an option. So, we were lucky to have a sag vehicle to bring us over the bridge and drop us off at the end of the bridge. Off to Mystic we completed the ride. Of course, our hotel had to end basically on a cliff up a steep hill haha. Tomorrow we are off to Providence RI, but we are staying in Newport at a friend of Jim’s. Weather doesn’t look so hot for tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed the forecast is wrong.
