Timothy Joseph Connolly, of Worcester, MA, died on May 3rd after a battle with ALS. He was 68. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Donna O’Neill Connolly, his son Mark Connolly (Samantha) of Beverly, MA, his son Shaun Connolly (Mairead), and their son Davin Moses Connolly of Worcester, as well as his sister Mary Pat Anderson of Newburgh, NY, brother Kevin Connolly (Roslyn) of Pittsfield, MA, brother Christopher Connolly (Mary) of Saco, ME. He is preceded in death by his parents John R. Connolly, Catherine neé McGill, and his brother Michael “Moses” Connolly.
Tim was a basketball star in high school scoring over 1,000 points for St. Joseph of Pittsfield and then playing on scholarship for Assumption College, where he earned a BA and MA in English. He started working as a journalist in CT, eventually landing a job at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette for 21 years, covering World Series games, political campaigns, the State House as well as having a long-standing political column. He left the paper in 2000 and moved into Public Relations. He worked as the Communications Director for the MA Department of Revenue and then for the Worcester County District Attorney, Joseph Early, until he retired in 2021. For 30 years he also taught journalism part time at Assumption and Clark University.
Tim was an active member of St. George’s Church. He enjoyed reading, watching the Red Sox and Celtics, supporting both of his sons’ many interests and taking numerous trips with Donna.
There will be a wake at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, on Sunday, May 14th, from 2 to 6 P.M. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 15th at 10 A.M. in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester.
