Thomas Patrick Lavin, 66, of Meredith, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on June 24 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous seven-year battle with ALS. He was the devoted husband of Irena (Rupsys) Lavin, with whom he shared an incredible bond for the past 43 years.
Born in Boston on August 5, 1956, Tom was the cherished son of the late Thomas and Charlotte (McKeon) Lavin. He grew up in Whitman, MA, and later resided in Easton, MA where he raised his children, before settling in Meredith.
Tom was a proud graduate of Whitman-Hanson High School and Boston College, where he earned a B.S. with honors in accounting and computer science. He left a lasting mark as a member of the Boston College Rugby team.
A true titan in the realm of real estate investment, Tom served as the Managing Director and co-founder of the Real Estate Group at Fidelity Investments. During his fifteen years at Fidelity he built and managed an industry leading team of real estate professionals that invested in commercial real estate across the United States. Prior to his role at Fidelity, he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer at Liberty Real Estate Group Inc., a subsidiary of Liberty Financial Companies. Following his corporate accomplishments, Tom served as Founder and CEO of Broadview Investors, a commercial real estate consultant group that provided expertise for high end multifamily development projects. His impressive credentials included being a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom had a passion for Boston sports, weightlifting, and held a second degree black belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate. His happiest moments were spent with his family at Lake Winnipesaukee, where he enjoyed golfing, boating, hiking, and skiing. Tom was also devoted to giving back having supported a number of philanthropic endeavors over the course of his life.
Tom’s legacy lives on through his cherished children: Tiffany Buckley and her husband Dave of Franklin, MA; Sean Lavin and his wife Jenn of Quincy, MA; and Tom Lavin and his wife Carolyn of Sherborn, MA. He is also survived by his siblings, Charlene Lavin and her husband Steve Parsons of Mansfield, MA, and Peter Lavin and his wife Louise of Brockton, MA.
In addition, Tom leaves behind a precious gift in the form of his four grandchildren: Chloe, Jameson, and Logan Buckley, and Bode Lavin. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 30th at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin, MA. Burial will be a private ceremony.
Those who wish to pay their respects may attend the calling hours on Thursday, June 29th, from 4-8 p.m. at the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com), located at 131 Main Street, Franklin, MA.
