Dr. Thiruvalam P. Indira was born at Kadpadi, Tamil Nadu, India. She was the daughter of the late T. A. Pondurangam and Sundari Ammal. She resided in Wilmington, Delaware since 1990.

Dr. Indira was a diehard fan of Indian music of many languages and genres, as well as an admirer of movies, animation, tennis and photography. She was happiest when traveling, especially in nature, and she always cherished visiting botanical gardens, parks, beaches, and world travel, especially to India and to other countries around the world. She loved going to churches, and giving care to people in need regardless of ability to pay, particularly women when they are sick and could not afford care. She provided care to veterans and specialized in internal medicine, family medicine and geriatric care. Even as a young person, she dared to be strong, to be different, and to forge her own path without fear. She fought hard for her patients, and for the people she loved, and would never hesitate to give help, however she could to whoever she could.

Dr. Indira is survived by her husband Dr. Mookkan (Peri) Periyasamy, daughter Aswini (Winn) Periyasamy JD. She is also survived by her siblings, many nephews, nieces, friends around the states and in other countries, and her beloved Madras Medical College (MMC) classmates around the world.
