Winthrop- Tammy J. Richardson, 66, took her final breath in her own way, peacefully surrounded by those who she loved around her and performed her last act of love, protecting those who already said goodbye on March 14, 2026 at the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn.

Tammy was born January 4, 1960, in Bangor to parents Nancy England and Orville (Jim) England of Presque Isle. Tammy grew up as a true county girl in Presque Isle picking potatoes and racing snowmobiles. Tammy attended Presque Isle High School and was a member of the Flag and Drill team until her graduation in 1978.

Post high school, Tammy remained in Presque Isle working as a dental assistant until moving down south to Wells in 1982. During that time, Tammy welcomed her first child, daughter Ashley in 1983. Tammy and her family moved to Brunswick in the late 80’s welcoming her second child, son Joseph (Joe) in 1987. In the early 90’s the family moved to Richmond and Tammy began her love and passion for being a lifelong Richmond Bobcat fan.

After being a stay-at-home mom during the 80’s and early 90’s, Tammy began a over decade long career at L.L. Bean in the packing department. Tammy loved bringing her family to Christmas celebrations with Santa through L.L. Bean and spending time living with her family in the most typical 90’s way! Tammy took Ashley to various concerts throughout the years beginning with Tina Turner when Ashley was 3. This led to New Kids on the Block, Boys to Men, Billy Joel, a WWE event with Joe, and even Smashing Pumpkins. In the years that followed, Tammy was a dedicated mother attending any and all events for her children. She was a second mother to many of Ashley and Joe’s friends. Tammy’s home was a place of joy and laughter.

In the early 00’s Tammy wanted to further her life and begin her most meaningful career as a dedicated social worker. Tammy began post-secondary education at the University of Maine at Augusta and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. During this time, Tammy began her second chapter of life, meeting her husband, Brian. Tammy and Brian met in February of 2006. They were introduced by their close friends Kevin and Deb Alden. The first date was at Gippers Sports bar in Auburn and will always be remembered as the “debut” card date. If you know, you know. While they were “dating” Tammy and Brian enjoyed countless adventures together. Ttrips on their ATV with friends, Red Sox games, and numerous trips to the family camp on Portage Lake. In 2007 they purchased a home in Winthrop. The home had many flower gardens and Tammy kept herself busy maintaining those.

Brian and Tammy were married in August of 2008 at a quiet bed and breakfast in East Boothbay. They were accompanied by lifelong close friends. Brian and Tammy’s marriage was one built on trust and respect. Tammy was always busy with her job and work “kids”, while Brian was busy as a high school sports official. They always made time for each other including many road trips on the back roads of central Maine, numerous cruises, and several trips to Myrtle Beach and Texas to visit family.

Tammy took up the game of golf which was a blessing in disguise. Brian and Tammy enjoyed many rounds of golf that Maine and Myrtle Beach had to offer. The highlight of her golfing was making a birdie on the 11th hole at Sugarloaf.

Tammy began her final career after graduating, starting with various group homes for young youth followed by entering her role with the Department of Health and Human Services where she continued to work until 2024. Tammy engaged with various roles throughout DHHS however, her last years spent as a Youth Transition Specialist as a member of the Maine Youth Leadership Advisory Team, is where she shined the most. Tammy touched many youth along the way and supported their journey through adulthood as she would refer to her “work kids” with dedication, compassion and care. Years passed and Tammy entered her most cherished role of Meme and Grammy. Tammy’s absolute greatest joy was watching Ashley’s daughter, her first granddaughter, Aubrey grow. Tammy attended all school events upon Aubrey entering preschool in 2014 and was the biggest cheerleader during all of Aubrey’s games. Tammy would share her pride and love for Aubrey to those who had the fortune of meeting her. Tammy was the most supportive Bobcat fan and a staple on any sideline home or away! As Tammy began to live her life with ALS, her love for watching Aubrey didn’t budge. She would travel to Rangely and Rumford and all towns in between with Brian by her side. Through her last years, watching Aubrey play lit up her face as she would cheer in any way she could.

In August of 2023, their 15th year wedding anniversary, Tammy was diagnosed with ALS. Brian and Tammy lived by the saying, “as normal as we can, for as long as we can”. They continued to live life to the fullest. In the spring of 2024, they set out on a 3 week road trip with stops in Virginia, Myrtle Beach, West Monroe, Louisiana and ending up in Schertz, Texas. Tammy’s last road trip was one final week at her most favorite place, Portage Lake, last summer. She spent 4 days at camp and soaked in every minute during her final trip to the county.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Brian Richardson of Winthrop. Mother, Nancy England of Presque Isle. Daughter Ashley Hinkley, husband Randy Hinkley, and granddaughter Aubrey Swift of Richmond. Son, Joseph Giberson of Richmond. Daughter Briana Hudson, husband Chris Hudson and grandsons, Riley Hudson, Gabe Filip, Cole Hudson, and Gavin Filip of Tuner. Daughter Brittany Lopez, husband Paul Lopez, and grandchildren Tina Marie, Evan, and Katie Lopez of Schertz, Texas. Various sister in laws of Turner and many “work kids” along the way. Tammy is predeceased by her father, Orvlle (Jim) England.
