Sandra A. (Valenti) Parent, 82, of Holyoke, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late Santo and Beatrice (Miles) Valenti, and attended local schools. Over the years she worked as a self-employed bookkeeper. Sandy was an incredibly strong, compassionate, and joyous mother, wife, grandmother, and friend. When she wasn’t on one of her many trips around the world with her large group of lifelong friends, she could be found on one of the local golf courses, having dinner and drinks with her friends, or gardening at her home with her loved and loyal companion, Marley. She was a true, lifelong “Holyoker.” She served on many committees and groups in the city and hosted an annual gathering to cheer on runners and hand out water in front of her home during the annual St. Patrick’s Road Race. Sandy was most proud of her family; she would always host family gatherings at her home. Many great family memories were made around her kitchen table during these gatherings, celebrating holidays, birthdays, or just because. Sandy’s greatest joy was spending time with her 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; she was grandma- and would spoil them at every opportunity. Sandy will be greatly missed, but she is now reunited with her husband and the love of her life, Joe.
Sandy is survived by her children: Keith Parent and his wife Susan of Southwick, Kenneth Parent and his wife Leeann of Foster, RI, and Kelly Parent Smith of Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada; her sister, Cynthia Milkiewicz and her husband Alan of Belchertown; her brother, Robert Valenti and his wife Marge of South Hadley; her grandchildren: Amanda, Tony, Cam, Dillon, Jordan, Devin, Bella, Mikayla, and Joey; her great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Owen, Atlas, and Archer, as well as countless nephews and nieces, and her close friend, Jerry. Besides her parents, Sandy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Parent; her brother, Louis Valenti; and her sister, Nancy Carr.
A funeral home service will be held for Sandy on Friday, July 26th at 12 noon in the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will be held privately. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 25th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574 or via CCALS.ORG.
