FONSECA, Phyllis N. Of Cambridge, MA, passed away on October 11, 2021 after a courageous 2 year with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease, at the age of 63.

Born in Boston, Phyllis graduated from Medford High School, Princeton University and the Smith College School for Social Work. For over 30 years, Phyllis worked as a clinical social worker/ psychotherapist/counselor with young adults primarily in college based counseling centers. She also supervised and mentored scores of social work and psychology graduate students and young clinicians in developing psychotherapy skills.

The light of Phyllis’ life was her daughter Camille Fonseca-Brugge (aka Laila Grace Braxton or Laice) of Cambridge. Phyllis was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend; dear daughter of the late Shirley (Braxton) Fonseca of Arlington and Ernest O. Fonseca of Boston; devoted sister of Ernest “Bubba” Fonseca, Jr. of Boston and Quincy, Maria “Mimi” Fonseca of Arlington, and her late brother Antone “Tony” Fonseca of Randolph; cherished aunt of Ana Lyvia Fonseca, Antone “Tony” Fonseca, Jr. and Sarek Fonseca. Also survived by her former husband Douglas Brugge of Watertown, MA and CT, many Braxton cousins, Brugge in-laws, and other extended family and friends. Phyllis will be remembered by the many clients she was privileged to work with in counseling centers at Salem State College, Wheelock College and Emmanuel College and the graduate students she advised at the Simmons College School of Social Work and the Smith College School for Social Work.

Visiting Hours: Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Sunday, October 24th at the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, MEDFORD from Noon to 2 PM.
