Michael Jonathan Zigmond, 81, of Woods Hole formerly of Pittsburgh, PA passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023. Born in Waterbury, CT, son of the late Kate (Levy) and Rabbi Maurice Zigmond.
Professor of Neurology and Neuroscience Researcher at University of Pittsburgh. His research contributed to a greater understanding of the mechanisms of Parkinson’s Disease and the usefulness of exercise and social interactions in its treatment. He was devoted to mentoring, developed a “Survival Skills & Ethics Curriculum” for professional development of graduate students, post-doc, young faculty, and minorities, and provided training (with Beth Fischer) in 30-plus countries and across the United States. He was also a generous contributor to local and national charitable organizations whose focus is on housing and homelessness.
For 57 years he was the beloved husband of Naomi (Kershman) Zigmond. He was a devoted father of Dan and Leah. Adored grandfather of Maxine, Anna, Yaniv, and Amit. Dear brother of Richard.
Services will be held at Falmouth Jewish Congregation, 7 Hatchville Road, East Falmouth on Wednesday, August 30 at 2PM. Burial will follow immediately at the Falmouth Jewish Cemetery.
Shiva will be observed at the family home following the funeral, continuing on Thursday, August 31 and Friday, September 1 from 10:30AM – 5PM.
