Maria da Conceicao Gouveia, 77, of Somerset and wife of Aurelio R. Gouveia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with ALS.

Born in Arrifes, St. Michael, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Lopes Correia and the late Maria (Cabral) Lopes Correia.

Prior to her retirement she was a sewing machine operator for Merit Dress for many years. She loved sewing, shopping, scary movies, and trips to the casino. Maria also enjoyed traveling to such places as the Azores, Florida, Bermuda, California, and Lisbon. She will always be remembered for her meticulous appearance for which she was very proud of. But what was most important to her was spending quality time with her loving family.

Besides her husband of fifty-eight years, she leaves: her children, Anna Machado and her husband, Dinis, Sandra Pressley and her husband, Anthony, John Gouveia and his significant other, Connie Almeida, all of Fall River, and David Gouveia and his wife, Heather, of Somerset; her eight grandchildren, Jessica Martins, Jennifer Gray, Nicholas Gouveia, Katelynn Gouveia, Noah Gouveia, Cole Gouveia, Riley Gouveia, and Lilliana Pressley; her eight great-grandchildren, Ava Gray, Olivia Gray, Jayden Gray, Isabella Martins, Isaac Martins, Autumn Gouveia, Noelle Gouveia, Hunter Gouveia; her two sisters, Mary Viveiros and her husband, Manuel, of Fall River, and Mary Camara (late husband, Joao) of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late John Correia, Serafin Correia, Manuel Correia, and Gil Correia.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 from the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St., Fall River, at 8:45 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in St. God of Church, 996 Brayton Ave., Somerset, at 10:00 AM. Her visitation will take place on Sunday, June 6, 2021 in the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, Fall River, from 4-7 PM. She will be laid to rest in Notre Dame Cemetery.
