PEABODY – Lynne M. (Clougherty) O’Brien, 63, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022 with family by her side after a brief stay at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. Lynne was diagnosed with ALS in 2011 and battled this disease bravely for over a decade. She was the beloved wife of Bob O’Brien, her primary caretaker until her passing. They shared 41 years of marriage together.

She grew up in Burlington, MA and attended Burlington High School (c/o ‘76) and Southeastern Massachusetts University (c/o ‘80), where she met lifelong friends. Lynne worked as a font designer for nearly 30 years at Monotype Imaging (formerly AGFA).

Bob and Lynne were Peabody residents since 1985 where they raised their two children, Stephanie and Michael. She loved her kids more than anything and was deeply involved in their lives. The O’Brien’s were surrounded by loving neighbors who they made lasting memories with and supported her throughout her illness.

Lynne lived life to the fullest. She was always active and could commonly be seen on her daily walks around West Peabody. She was an avid photographer and knew exactly how to coerce her family and friends into group photos at every event. She loved baking and hosting family gatherings – no birthday was complete without a well-planned party and a cake baked by Lynne. Lynne and Bob spent many memorable summers together at Bow Lake in Strafford, New Hampshire.

Nothing mattered more to Lynne than family. She was the devoted daughter of the late Patrick and Claire (Minichiello) Clougherty and daughter-in-law to Ida Mitten and the late Bill O’Brien; a loving sister to her brother, Thomas Clougherty and his wife Martha, David Clougherty and his late wife Ann Marie, Robbie Clougherty and his wife Krystal, and the late Debra and Cliff Sharpe and a loving sister-in-law to Susan and Ken Ryan and Cheryl and John Burnett; and a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements: Lynne’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Adelaide’s Church, 708 Lowell Street, Peabody Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Monday January 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
