WELCH, John E. Of Medford, December 21, 2018, at the age of 60, after a courageous battle with ALS. Beloved husband of 36 years to Mary T. (McManus). Devoted father of Johnny Welch and his fiancée Kara Kouri of Waltham, Mollie Furtado and her husband Juvi of Medford, and Emily Welch of Medford. Born in Somerville to the late James and Jean (Panzer) Welch. Loving son-in-law of Theresa McManus and her late husband William of Medford. Dear brother of James and his wife Mary of Melrose, Robert and his wife Margaret of Somerville, and the late Paul Welch. Brother-in-law of William McManus and his wife Anne of Framingham, Rita Pino and her late husband Sam of North Andover, Eileen Pagliarulo and her husband Charlie of Medford, Monica Colozzo and her husband Vinny of Melrose, Sarah O’Brien and her husband William III of Stoneham and Christine Auriemma and her husband Mark of Stoneham. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Lauren, Sammy, Steph, Jenn, Nick, Olivia, Jackie, Matt, Katherine, Mike, Charlie, Monica, Joseph, Anthony, Robert, Kasey, William, Elise, Grace & Leo, and great-niece Emma.
John devoted his life to his community. He was a teacher for 37 years in the Somerville School System, was very involved in the Catholic Church, worked for the Boston Red Sox for 41 years, and helped manage facilities at LaConte Rink in Medford.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, in MEDFORD, on Thursday from 4-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held in church on Friday at 11:30 am. Services will conclude at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
