Joanne Mary Connell (nee Flynn) of Pleasantville, New York passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Calvary hospital in the Bronx after a courageous battle with ALS. Joanne was born and raised in New Rochelle New York. She graduated from Iona College in 1982 with a Bachelors Degree in English and received her Master’s in Library Science from Long Island University in 1998. Joanne was an avid reader with a love for books. She began her long career as the Library Media Specialist at Carmel High school in 1998 where she touched the lives of so many students in need and fostered eager readers and creative minds.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Thomas Connell and their three children, Timothy Connell (Colleen), Kelsey Montefusco (Daniel) and Kevin Connell (Nicole) as well as her precious grandson, Owen Montefusco. Joanne was predeceased by her parents Bernard Flynn and Lillian Flynn as well as her sisters Kathleen Cronin and Mary Ellen Flynn. Additionally, Joanne is survived by her siblings, Bernard Flynn (Gail), Richard Flynn (Susan), William Flynn (Mary), James Flynn (Laura), Theresa Moody (Robert), her brother in law Eugene Cronin and her three sisters in law, Margaret Pappalardo (Stephan), Jeanne Pacewicz (Michael) and Barbara Connell as well as 27 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Joanne also leaves behind her “Soul Sisters” from grammar school, Carol Casey, Cathy O’Connell, Susan Veshi, Eileen Moran, Marie Cenatiempo as well as all of her beloved Pleasantville crew.
Joanne was a dedicated mom, wife, grandmother and friend. She was a wordsmith as a result of her love of books and could always find the perfect book, even for the most reluctant reader. She will forever be remembered for her love and care for her children, her dedication to her job and her ability to make her grandson smile with just a glance.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30th at Beecher Flooks Funeral Home in Pleasantville NY. from 2:00 pm. to 4:00 pm. and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 31st at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Innocents Church in Pleasantville, NY.
