Janet (Dee) Mathieu, 74, of Shrewsbury, formerly of Holden, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in her home following a courageous battle with ALS.
Janet leaves her husband of 50 years, Fancis X. Mathieu; her children, Michael F. Mathieu and his wife Jennifer of Grafton, and Elizabeth D. Shanley and her husband Terence of Shrewsbury; four grandchildren, Avery and Olivia Mathieu, and Caroline and John Shanley; her sister Martha M. Dee of Florida; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Janet was born in Worcester, daughter of Dr. John E. and Mary H. (O’Connell) Dee. Janet worked in the Worcester Public Schools for 32 years, beginning as a Family Liaison to later serving as a Community and AVID Specialist, where she supported countless students and families throughout her career.
Janet’s greatest joy was spending time with and caring for her children and grandchildren. She dedicated her life to her family and was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Her kindness, love and unwavering devotion to her family and friends will be remembered always.
Though deeply missed, the love, laughter and friendships she shared will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, August 19, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster Street, Worcester. The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 20, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, 22 Boylston Street, Shrewsbury.
