Gregory A. Smith, 60, passed away from ALS on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Westfield, MA to the late Gordon and Delores Smith . Greg was raised in Southwick, MA and he graduated from Southwick High School.
Greg worked at H.P. Hood in Agawam for 38 years with a few years in between at Agri -Mark Inc. He was a hard, dedicated worker. He worked all those years putting in extra hours and saving his money to buy his dream, a fishing boat. Fishing and boating were his true passions, second only to his family. Family vacations at lake houses in The Berkshires were his happy place.
Greg will be sadly missed by his wife, Christine (Skowera) and sons Zachary (partner Chelsea) , Alexander and Jacob. His sisters Laura Snyder (Richard) and Virginia McCabe(Michael). Brother In Laws George Skowera (Deborah), Richard Skowera (Dale) who was also a great fishing buddy, Sister In Laws Diane Escobar (Manuel) and Mary Smith. Nephews Brian, Brandyn, Eric, Manny George (his Godson) and Jonathan. Nieces Jennifer, Brianna and Lindsey. He also leaves his best good boy a man could ask for, Bo. Greg was predeceased by his parents and his brother James.
His three sons lovingly shared that he was the best dad they could have asked for- and even if given the choice, they wouldn’t trade him for anyone else, not even someone who didn’t have ALS and lived a longer life. His love, strength and unwavering presence meant more to them than time itself.
Special thanks to all the caring and compassionate caregivers from Baystate Home Health-Hospice and to Michael Hodgkins from CCALS.
A Funeral Home Service will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025 with calling hours from 1-3 followed by a short service in the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St. Westfield,. Donations in Gregory’s name may be directed to Compassionate Care ALS (ccals.org) P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574.
