George Charles Stokes, 71, of Lanesborough, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Born on August 8, 1951, George was a lifelong resident of Berkshire County and a graduate of Pittsfield High School. From 1971 to 1973, he served in the US Army in Germany. He worked at Crane and Company until his retirement in 2016.

George loved fixing any stray car, boat, or engine that came his way. If you asked, he’d explain his thought process; demonstrating how he successfully got them running again. His crowning achievement was the restoration of his 1978 Corvette – a car he had dreamt of owning since he was a small boy. He loved gadgets and the latest technology (except for cell phones) and got a kick out of experimenting with anything new.

George loved the simple things in life and was happiest sitting on his deck on a warm summer morning, watching the birds and sipping coffee with his beloved wife Linda. He loved the outdoors – camping, boating, and his daily walks. He mastered the art of building a fire and passed the secret along to all his children. When the weather didn’t cooperate, you could find him inside with his cat on his lap, watching the birds through the window.

George was a loving and kind man who would lend a hand to anyone who needed it. His jokes were so bad they were great. He loved, and was loved in return, by his family and friends.

George was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Eleanor (Ano) Stokes, both of Pittsfield, MA, and his brother Norman A. Stokes, also of Pittsfield. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Lasher) Stokes; his son Brian Stokes and his partner, Jody Robins, and their two children JayLynn and Kayla, of Lanesborough, MA; his daughter Katie (Stokes) Borgasano and her husband Michael Borgasano, of Woburn, MA; his son Sean Stokes and his wife Jaime Russell, of Portland, Oregon; and his cat, Gracie.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date; in lieu of flowers, we kindly request that a donation be made in George’s memory to Compassionate Care ALS (www.ccals.org) at P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574.
