Frederick F. Roche, Jr., 75, passed away at home on March 6, surrounded by family, after complications from ALS.

Originally from Melrose, Massachusetts, Fred was the son of the late Frederick and Reta Roche and the brother of the late Donald Roche. He is survived by his brother Kenneth Roche and cousin Anne Marie Braid. He later made his home in East Boston, where he and his wife raised their family, before eventually settling in New Hampshire.

Fred was the beloved husband of Barbara (Belmonte) Roche for 51 wonderful years. He was a devoted father to Frederick, Brian, and Adrienne, and a proud father-in-law to Michael. His children meant the world to him, and he adored them throughout his life. Of all the titles he held over the years – Fred, Ricky, Mr. Roche, Dad, Daddy, and Zunz, his favorite name was “Papa.” Becoming Papa to his two grandchildren, Brynn and Ty, was the role he cherished most. They brought him endless joy and pride.

Fred also had a soft spot for his granddogs, who he treated as family and often took for rides. He loved the outdoors and felt most at home surrounded by nature. Whether he was fishing, wandering through the woods, or spending time at Hedding – his favorite place, Fred was happiest outside.

Known for his quick wit and easy humor, Fred never missed a chance to tell a joke, tease someone he loved, or lighten the mood with a laugh. His sense of humor and warm presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Above all else, Fred will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud Papa, and loyal friend whose greatest joy was simply being with his family.

A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at his beloved Hedding at a later date.

If you feel moved to do so, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to Compassionate Care ALS (www.ccals.org), which supports individuals and families living with ALS.
