Dr. Nikolai Zhitenev (62), died peacefully in his home in Germantown, MD, on June 4th, 2026 after a two year battle with ALS. He was born on October 9th, 1963 in Chernogolovka, Russia.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Natalia; their children, Veronika and Julia; and his brother, Sergey.
Nikolai was brilliant, kind, patient, and dedicated. He was loved by many. He was a talented physicist whose accomplishments allowed him to build a great life for his family in the United States. Nikolai never missed an opportunity to help out his friends or family. He was an athlete, a gardener, a mentor, and a friend to all who knew him. Nikolai’s passing is a great loss in many of our lives.
A private ceremony will be held in Nikolai’s honor for close friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Compassionate Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, Mass. 02574, in Nikolai’s memory.
