Christopher Sumner, 64, beloved husband, father, grandfather, Pastor, community leader and lifelong public servant, transitioned peacefully to the arms of his heavenly father, surrounded by his loving family on July, 5, 2026. Born a son of Roxbury on November 9, 1961, he will be remembered not only for his extraordinary record of service, but for his remarkable gift of making every person he encountered feel seen, valued, loved and important. His legacy of compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to others will continue to inspire generations to come.

Throughout his distinguished career, Chris dedicated his life to creating opportunities for young people and strengthening communities across Boston. His leadership roles included serving as Chief Operations Executive of the Ray & Joan Kroc Center, Executive Director of: the Melnea A. Cass Recreation Complex & Roxbury Heritage State Park, the Dillaway-Thomas House, the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club, and the Boston Ten Point Coalition. He also served as Executive Pastor of Jubilee Christian Church and held leadership roles with the St. Stephen’s Youth Programs, the Boston Urban Youth Foundation, and the I Have a Dream Program. His career of service came to a close only after the devastating effects of ALS made retirement necessary.

A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Jubilee Christian Church, 1500 Blue Hill Ave, Mattapan with visitation with the family at 5pm. The service will begin at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Compassionate Care ALS at www.ccals.org.
