WAREHAM – Arthur Paul Tavares, 81, of Wareham, passed away on April 15, 2024, at Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia Anne (Leggett) Tavares and the son of the late Feliciano Tavares, Sr. and Albina Marie (Gomes) Tavares.
He was born in Providence, RI and graduated from Hope High School. He lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Wareham.
Mr. Tavares was one of the founding members of the singing group “TAVARES” for 55 years until retiring in 2014 after a stroke.
He also worked as a longshoreman, served as business agent for the ILA, and drove for SRTA bus in New Bedford.
He loved doing jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Virginia Ann (Leggett) Tavares; a son, Brandon Tavares; a daughter, Carrie Tavares-Brito; 5 brothers, John Baptiste, Antone, Victor, Perry and Feliciano Tavares; 2 sisters, Deolinda Borges and Jenny Baptiste; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Tavares and his sister, Eva Baptiste Timm.
Visiting hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
