Arthur Miles Gilbert of East Falmouth passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, August 14th.
After a successful 30 year career with IBM, Arthur found joy in volunteer work. First, in Bethel CT where he lived and retired, Art worked with Good Friend as a youth mentor, Habitat for Humanity, and annual tax and IT support for the Danbury CT Senior Center. He fostered several children and spent much time with his grandchildren. After moving to East Falmouth full time in 2016, Art volunteered at the Falmouth Senior Center as “the tech guy.” After being diagnosed with ALS, Art supported research into ALS through The Healy Center and CCALS while continuing his volunteer work as long as he was able. Art was active socially with The Newcomers of Falmouth and Encore groups. He loved playing cards, reading and going for strolls around the neighborhood as well as going out to eat with friends and seeing shows at the Cotuit Center for the Arts.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Susan (Cooke) Gilbert, his devoted children Lauren & Robert Kellnhauser of Oakville, CT, and Brian and Nadia Gilbert of East Falmouth. His grandchildren, Miles, Robin, and Sequoia adored him tremendously. Arthur is also survived by his sister, Abby Kohut of Fort Myers, sister-in-law Leisa Brawley and brother-in-laws Stephen Cooke and Danny Brawley, all of Naples, FL, and numerous friends and family all over who will remember him as one of the kindest men they knew.
A celebration of his life will take place at Chapman’s Funeral on August 29th. Visiting hours will be from 11 – 1 and there will be a memorial service at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CCALS (Compassionate Care ALS) of Cape Cod.
