Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) Care Liaison and US Navy Veteran, Michael Hodgkins, rode seventy miles on Peloton and raised $8,400 so that people living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and their families could enjoy a Red Sox game in the Pavillion Suites on April 16, 2023.
Six weeks before Hodgkins seventieth birthday on January 31, 2023, he recruited friends to help train on his Peloton bike in preparation for his fundraiser to raise enough money for CCALS patients to attend the Red Sox game. Michael’s discipline throughout rehab and physical training after multiple strokes allowed him to accomplish 70 miles on his bike and surpass his original goal.
Hodgkins was inspired to launch this fundraiser after he experienced two strokes in May of 2022 and underwent weeks of rehabilitation in order to regain his mobility. This experience gave him an even deeper appreciation for the difficulties of people with ALS who have lost the ability to walk.
His new perspective inspired Hodgkins to arrange a special event that was accessible for ALS families. He inquired Red Sox sales and secured adjoining Pavilion Suites. Thanks to Hodgkins’ fundraising, CCALS families will get to watch the Red Sox face off against the Los Angeles Angels on April 16, 2023.
