Elizabeth F. Betty (Gaffey) Weldon, age 88, of Brockton, died Tuesday September 15, 2015, at BayPointe Nursing Facility following a period of failing health. She was the wife for 60 years of the late John T. Weldon.
Born and raised in Randolph, she was the daughter of the late James and Amelia (Santos) Gaffey. In 1943 she graduated Randolph High School as class valedictorian. Betty worked in many capacities as a volunteer, and then as an employee at St. Colman Church for over 30 years. She was the first business manager in the parish and retired from her position in 1998. Betty enjoyed music, vacationing on Cape Cod and in Florida, and socializing with her many friends. She treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Betty was a devout communicant of St. Colman Church.
Betty is survived by her six children and their spouses, Jack and Jeanne Weldon of Brookline, Peggy and Tom Maistros of Dorchester, Maureen and Paul Helfrich of Santa Fe., NM, Larry and Liz Weldon of Bridgewater, Patty Oakley of West Bridgewater and Chris and Craig Trombly of Plymouth. She was the grandmother of Jenna, Jimmy, John Patrick, Andrea, George, David, Megan and John. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123), Brockton, Sunday 3-7 p.m. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Monday at 10 a.m. for a funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish, 54 Lyman St., Brockton, at 11 a.m. Burial in St. Marys Cemetery, Randolph.
