EASTON——Robert J. Powers, 77, a resident of Easton for the past 44 years, died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at home under the care of his family. He was the husband of Veronica (Slack) Powers for 55 years.

Born in Boston on June 26, 1937, a son of the late John C. and Mary (Ryan) Powers, he was raised and educated in Dorchester. A disabled veteran of the US Navy, he served during peace time. Upon honorable discharge from the US Military he began his career as a meat cutter with Kelly Beef Company of Boston and later for Lampert Beef Company of Boston.

While working as a meat cutter he was the proprietor and operator of a Meat House Cleaning Business as well as the proprietor of Meat Land with locations in Easton and Walpole. Robert was also a commercial clam digger.

Robert was an active volunteer with Easton Pop Warner Football serving as both a coach and league representative. He was a devoted volunteer with the Easton Youth Hockey League and his hobbies included swimming, deep sea and freshwater fishing, skiing and skating.

In addition to his wife Veronica, he is survived by nine children, John Powers of Taunton, Bernadette Murphy of Norton, Mary Forcina of Norton, Denise Gilmartin of Raynham, Veronica Pugliesi of Easton, Patricia Dolan of Easton, Eileen Quinlan of Raynham, Thomas Powers of Easton and Julie Clapp of Easton; his siblings, Mary Roos of Avon, William Powers of Brockton, Dorothy Jordan of East Bridgewater, Catherine Doherty of East Bridgewater, Rose Cook of Canton, Bernadette Sample of Braintree, Patricia Riley of East Bridgewater and the late Anthony J. Powers. Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 605 Washington Street (Rte.138) Easton, on Monday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in the Holy Cross Church, Easton, at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Furnace Village Cemetery, Easton.
