Kevin Jameel Parker, 53, died Friday, March 10, 2017, at the Milton Hospital after a courageous 6 year battle with ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was the beloved husband of 20 years to Carolyn M. (DeCosta) Parker.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he was raised and educated in Roxbury and was a graduate of Boston English High School. Mr. Parker was also a graduate of Tufts University School of The Museum of Fine Arts and earned his Master’s Degree in Art Education from MassArt. He was a resident of Randolph for over 20 years. Mr. Parker worked as a Fine Arts Teacher in the Cambridge School System, primarily at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School, for over 25 years. He loved his work and the daily interaction with the students and faculty and continued to work for several years after his diagnosis. Jameel loved to teach and mentor both children and adults and was a Big Brother to many of the students. He dedicated much of his time to community art creating murals in Boston, Cambridge, Montreal, Canada, and Haiti. He also served in several educational cultural exchanges in Japan, the Azores Islands and Germany. When he couldn’t paint with his hands anymore he started to paint with his mind. He was one of 10 participants with BRAINGATE 2. The data he contributed to the study will help improve the innovative technology produced by the study. He thought out of the box, attacked and enjoyed his life and fiercely battled his disease. In his free time, he enjoyed music, cars, hydroponics, painting community art murals and spending time with his beloved family.

In addition to his wife Carolyn, he is survived by his children; Victoria Durham and her husband Shamar, Gabriella, Xavier and Lilly Parker all of Randolph; Khalil Parker of Boston and the grandfather of Riley and Xavier Durham. He was the son of Eva H. Clark, Esq. of Roxbury and Robert Parker of Atlanta, GA. He was the brother of Nikki Hudson of Atlanta, GA and Keith Parker of Brighton and Uncle Walter Clark of Boston. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held in the Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Ave, Milton, on Friday at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Central Cemetery, Randolph.
