Obituary: Kathleen A. Vital

NEW BEDFORD – Kathleen A. “Kathy” (Hunsinger) Vital, age 62, of New Bedford, formerly of Fall River, passed away Saturday after a courageous battle with ALS. She was the wife of the late David R. Vital.

Born in Fall River, the daughter of Kathleen “Kay” (Mullen) Hunsinger of Fall River and the late Harold E. Hunsinger, she spent most her life in Fall River before moving to New Bedford a year and a half ago.

Mrs. Vital was a graduate of Bristol Community College in Fall River, where she received her Associates Degree in Human Services. She was employed with Citizens for Citizens for 20 years until her retirement in 2013. While at Citizens for Citizens, Kathy worked with pregnant teens for 10 years and helped with their Weatherization Program. Prior to that, she worked at the FR Public Library and Chace Curtain for several years.

She was a 37-year friend of Bill W. and she served on the Worlds AIDS Day Committee in Fall River for several years.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter Christine Connell and her husband Sean of Warwick, RI; two sisters, Elizabeth “Libby” Hunsinger-Davenport of New Bedford and Charlotte Sullivan and her husband James of Westport; a brother Brantley Hunsinger and his wife Barbara of Fall River; a step daughter Kristen Cabral of Fall River; four grandsons, Jason Cain, Jake Cain, Aiden Connell and Jacob Cabral; and several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 10am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7pm. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
