Published in capecodetimes.com on October 4, 2015

DENNIS – John “Jack” Tatro, 67, formerly of Barnstable, passed away at Cape Cod Hospital after a short illness on Oct. 1, 2015, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife Paula of 45 years; four children, Eric, Melissa, Michael and John; and seven grandchildren. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Rita Tatro (Quinlan) and his father John Tatro of Andover.

Part of the Woodstock generation, Jack loved the music of the day. His first date with Paula was to a Jimmie Hendrix concert at Boston Garden. After college, Jack worked at a fish market in Lawrence before taking a position with Turner Fisheries on the Boston Fish Pier as a buyer and cutter. Jack served as shop steward for the local union, advocating for wages and benefits for his fellow employees. In 1987, Jack and his family moved to Cape Cod where he owned and operated a local fish market for several years.

Jack was a caring husband, father and grandfather, known for his compassion and dedication to helping others. In his later years, many in the Cummaquid community knew him as the quiet tender of the roadside farm stand he ran in front of his home on Route 6A.

The family welcomes friends to attend visiting hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Morris, O’Connor and Blute Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Road, South Yarmouth. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Route 134, South Dennis.

Floral donations are gratefully accepted or gifts in Jack’s memory may be made to Compassionate Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574, or online.
