Obituary: John “Doug” Shillito III

Published in The Boston Globe on June 25, 2017

HILLITO, John “Doug” III 54, of Duxbury, died peacefully at home, his wife Sue by his side, on June 20, 2017 after a courageous five-year battle with ALS. While the illness robbed Doug of nearly all-physical capabilities, including the ability to speak, it never dampened his quick wit, wry sense of humor, passion for cars, boats and love for the water or his devilish smile.

Doug grew up in Chestnut Hill. He met Sue, the love of his life, in 1992. They married in 2001 and settled in Duxbury, where Doug and his family spent many childhood summers. Doug and Sue owned Cedarview Filling Station in Marshfield for 12 years and felt so welcomed and loved by the community. Many friends & family members also supported him throughout his battle. In addition to his wife Sue, Doug is survived by his mother, Bunny, his sisters Betsy Wagner & her daughter Rose, Laurie Shillito, brother Will Shillito & wife Jennifer. His father, Dr. John Shillito, preceded him in death.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Compassionate Care Falmouth, by visiting the website CCALS.org or by mail to PO Box 1052 W. Falmouth, MA 02574. For online guestbook please visit our website macdonaldfuneralhome.com MacDonald Funeral Home Marshfield macdonaldfuneralhome.com.
