John J. Campbell Jr. of Arlington, Cambridge and Scituate passed away on September 13,2017 from complications due to ALS. John was born on July 14, 1956 in Cambridge to the late C.Louise and John Campbell, a former Cambridge Attorney and State Representative.

John attended the Longfellow Grammar School in Cambridge, St. Joseph’s School in Belmont and in 1974 graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers.

From 1974 to 1981 John pursued a career in law enforcement and spent several years on the campus police force at Simmons College in Boston advancing to the rank of Lieutenant.

In 1981 a career change into real estate led to the opening in 1984 of John Campbell Realty. The firm was located at 27 Harvard St. in Brookline and became widely regarded as one of the premier real estate agencies during the 1980’s.

In 1995 John Campbell Realty moved to Cambridge where the firm became an independent force in the community experiencing many years of continued success.

John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years Mary Ann, her devoted parents Joseph and Jeanette LaRuffa of Hurleyville,NY, her sister Angela LaRuffa of Hurleyville,NY and her brother Frank LaRuffa and his wife Jennifer of Richmond,VA along with their children Olivia and Joseph; his step brother Tom Broderick Cook and his wife Aimee of Cummaquid along with their children Kaitlyn, Adam and Meredith, his step sister Kathleen Cook and her husband Bruce McCue of Boston.

Funeral from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Rd. Belmont Saturday, Sept. 16 at 9AM. Funeral mass in St. Paul’s Church Bow & Arrow Sts. ( Harvard Square) Cambridge at 10AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8PM. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery,West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John’s memory to Compassionate Care ALS P.O. Box 1052
