Obituary: Christopher “Chris” M Rushton

Published June 2015

RSurrounded by life and love, Christopher M. Rushton, 70, of Rome, NY, was called home Saturday, May 30, 2015, after a courageous battle with ALS. By his side was wife, Rosanne, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sarah Rushton, of Rome, NY, son and daughter-in-law, James and Amy Rushton, of Tyngsboro, MA, and daughter and son-in-law, Nicole Rushton and Mike Rahmer, of Albuquerque, NM.

Born December 18, 1944, in Stourport-on-Severn, in England, Chris was the son of Wilfred Mark and Vera Margaret Lashford Rushton. With a degree in Engineering Chris was a product sales manager at Bartell Machinery where he travelled the world. As evidenced by his 50 years of service, Chris loved his work and the camaraderie of his co-workers. He retired in 2010.

Chris met and married the love of his life Rosanne Frucci in Niles, Michigan. For over 46 years they shared all of life’s challenges and rewards. Chris was an avid Cricket player in his youth and Mark, James and Nicole have cherished memories of their father’s booming voice cheering them on in their many athletic endeavors. His British wit and humor were infectious and cherished by his many friends.

Businessman, husband and father, Chris’s crowning achievement was as a grandfather to his beloved grandchildren. Nicholas, Jack, Ethan, Gianna and Isla, cherished their Papi and loved spending time with him. Whether at their annual vacation on Cape Cod or selling lemonade to his neighbors, Chris loved nothing more than watching them play and grow.

ALS is an incurable, degenerative disease that cannot be fought alone. Chris and his family were aided by caregivers Kim Barrows, Erica Roman, Sherrie Griffith and Dawn Whitcombe who, while starting as tireless, dedicated professionals, quickly and forever became part of his family.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 5th at St Joseph’s church at 10:30am where the Rev. James D. Tormey will officiate. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday, June 4th, from 4-7pm at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome. Contributions may be made in Chris’ memory to Compassionate Care ALS, PO Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574.
