NEWPORT – Catherine M. (McMahon) Gorman, 66, of Newport, RI, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 with her son by her side, after a 7 month battle with ALS.

Born in New York, NY on June 7, 1948, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth (Rowland) McMahon.

Cathy is survived by her son, Nicholas C. Gorman of Hermosa Beach, CA, her sister Peggy Butler of New York, NY, her brother former RI Assistant Attorney General, John J. “Jack” McMahon of Portsmouth. She is also survived by her nephews, J.J. McMahon, Chris McMahon, James McMahon all of Newport, her nieces Brooke Butler of Los Angeles, CA, Jade McMahon of Portsmouth and a grandniece Elizabeth McMahon of New York City.

Visiting hours will be held from 1–4 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015, in the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at St. Mary’s Church, Spring Street, Newport at 10 a.m. Burial will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
