About Justin Soares
Aces Fore ALS was founded by Justin Soares in 2023 with a mission to raise awareness about ALS and support organizations that are truly committed to ALS research and care. Justin was diagnosed with ALS in October of 2021, just 6 weeks before welcoming his daughter, Madelyn, into this crazy world. Otherwise in good health, ALS struck out of nowhere with no explanation or reasoning why. Learning to navigate ALS and be new parents was a challenge, but Ron Hoffman, Founder and Executive Director at Compassionate Care ALS, and his CCALS team helped Justin and his family adapt to live with ALS, not die from it. Check out the following video that Meg and Justin put together in April 2022 about the support they have received from the wonderful team at CCALS. Until there is a cure for ALS, the industry leading care and support provided by CCALS is unquestionably essential. After seeing several different neurologists, Justin was also fortunate to be introduced to Dr. Richard Bedlack, Head of Neurology at Duke and one of the most prominent neurologists in innovative ALS research in the world. Dr. Bedlack is now Justin's primary neurologist and Justin has a renewed sense of optimism after seeing Dr. Bedlack's level of expertise and commitment to finding a cure for ALS. All proceeds raised for Justin's 2024 event will be split equally between CCALS and Dr. Bedlack's ALS research efforts at Duke!!

Learn about ALS
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a terminal disease that can strike anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or economic status. It causes patients to gradually lose control of the voluntary muscles in their body, it progresses differently in each case, and patients often die when they lose the capacity to breathe or swallow, while retaining their ability to see, hear, and comprehend what is happening to them.
Many individuals who have ALS lack community supports to fall back on as their mobility diminishes. Approximately 30,000 individuals are living in with ALS in the United States at any one time. Ninety percent of those have no family history of the disease.
