John V. Caristo, beloved husband of Patricia M. (Mavragis) Davis, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at Beverly Hospital from complications due to ALS. Born in Harlaston, England, he was the son of the late Rocco and Beatrice (Claydon) Caristo.
Shortly after his birth, John and his mother sailed to the United States aboard the Queen Mary to join his father’s family in East Boston. He was educated at the Boston Latin School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1969. He graduated magna cum laude from Endicott College.
John was equally gifted at troubleshooting high-tech equipment and building relationships with people from all over the world. He used those gifts first at the United Shoe Machinery Corporation and later at Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates in Gloucester, where he worked for 31 years. There he met his wife Patricia and made many lifelong friends.
John was interested in almost everything and everyone. John’s enthusiasm for percussion from his Drum Corps days was exceeded only by his love of Boston sports, especially the Patriots. He always had a funny story or unusual fact ready at hand. He made friends quickly and kept them for decades. All who knew him will miss him deeply.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son Scott Caristo of New York City, and his stepsons Michael Davis of Syracuse, N.Y., and Glen Davis and his wife Lisa of Washington, D.C. He also leaves behind his brother Vincent Caristo of Florida and his brothers-in-law Dennis Mavragis of Beverly and Harry Mavragis of Ipswich.
John’s family would like to thank all of the medical professionals at the Critical Care Unit of Beverly Hospital who cared for John over these past two weeks.
Visiting hours will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 2 – 4 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation hours at the funeral home.
