This past August my father Phil was diagnosed with ALS. I never thought my family and I would experience firsthand how awful and terrifying this disease is. With a dark diagnosis like ALS, my family finally found a sliver of light when they met Ron Hoffman at Compassionate Care ALS. Words cannot describe the relief we all felt upon meeting him.
Never, ever would I have imagined that after doing the ice bucket challenge for ALS two years ago that this disease would make its way into my family. I know that CCALS will be a crucial part of our lives going forward and I am grateful that we were put in contact with them. I know that they will continue to support families suffering from ALS until this disease has a cure.
CCALS not only helps with the financial burden of managing this disease, but they assist families in managing the overwhelming emotional stress and the constant questions that come along with ALS. CCALS is able to do all of this while providing a positive outlook and perspective to all of our families. When Ron leaves my parents’ house, my Dad feels better than he has in a while, and with ALS, that’s all you can ask.
So, on April 17th, 2017 I will run.
I will run for my Dad that can no longer run.
I will run for other families affected by this disease.
I will run to bring awareness for ALS.
I will run to raise money for Compassionate Care ALS, so they can continue to help families like ours.
I will run in hopes that we will soon find a cure.
