On April 20, 2026, I will be running the 130th Boston Marathon in honor of my mom, Eileen. In September 2023, my mom received the devastating diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. ALS is a cruel and unforgiving illness that gradually steals the physical strength of those it affects. There is currently no cure.

My mom has always been the rock of our family. Anyone who knows her knows how incredibly loving, strong, and funny she is. Those same qualities have defined how she’s faced ALS – with courage, kindness, and humor. She has always been my first call when life gets difficult or when I need advice. She is the best person I know.

My mom and dad have always been runners. They ran the Boston Marathon together in 1980 and 1981 – back when you could get still away with running the race without “officially” registering. They are the reason I fell in love with running. My mom can no longer run, so I’m running this marathon to honor her and raise money for an organization that has been critical to her and our family: CCALS.

My mom has faced this diagnosis with more strength, positivity, and grace than I ever could have imagined. But in addition to the support of family and friends – and especially my dad – CCALS has been a true lifeline. They have provided essential guidance, equipment, and support that has made an enormous difference in my parents’ lives.

Your donation can make a real difference for those living with ALS. Every contribution helps CCALS provide critical equipment, emotional support, and guidance to those navigating this disease. Please consider donating to honor my mom and to support CCALS’s vital mission. I am deeply grateful for your generosity.
