Niantic – Theodore “Teddy” Harris, 75, passed away peacefully at home in Niantic, following a courageous battle with ALS. He was born Nov. 2, 1949 in Waterford, to Chris and Chrysanthie Constantine Harris.

He received his bachelor of science degree from Drexel University in 1972 and then went on to graduate from UConn Law School in 1975 with high honors. He was then admitted to the Connecticut Bar Association in 1975, where he began to practice law. He first worked for Shea Stevens as an associate attorney, then became a partner at Shea, Stevens & Harris in 1982, later known as Stevens, Harris & Guernsey. Ted specialized in real estate law, both residential and commercial, and planning and zoning law, getting approvals for many businesses in town including, Gateway Development, Starbucks, Stop&Shop and the Ford dealership.

Ted’s favorite thing to do was spending time on his boat, “White Lightning.” He loved to fish and enjoyed being on the water, traveling to Florida during the winter months and living on his boat in the summer months in Niantic and New London. He established White Lightning Fisheries in 1986, a commercial charter fishing company. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love of boating and fishing with others. He also was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UConn men’s and women’s basketball. Ted also enjoyed real estate development. He went on to develop Pondcliff Condominiums, Brookfield Estates and was the co-owner of the Niantic Inn.

Ted was predeceased by his father Chris Harris; mother Chrysanthie Constantine Harris; and sister Connie Harris. A special appreciation goes out to his loyal friends, Jimmy Economou, Andy Levine and Tony Villano, for their friendship, care and kindness to Ted over the years.

Funeral service and burial will be private. Donations may be made to the www.ccals.org in Teddy’s memory. Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington Street, New London is assisting with the arrangements.
