Kevin McMahon passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on April 2, 1975, Kevin was the beloved son of Mary Hayden and stepfather Jeff Hayden. He was predeceased by his father, Daniel McMahon. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Lindsay and a proud father to their son, Liam, who was the light of his life.
Kevin is also survived by his sister, MaryKate Jones, her husband Tyler Jones, and their children Hailey and Nolan; and his sister Elizabeth Hayden. He leaves behind his beloved cousins Ray Dalton (and his wife Allyson Flaster, and their daughter Simone); Katie LaPierre (and her husband Brian LaPierre, and their children Aiden and Caelyn); William Dalton (and his wife Becca Dalton, and their children Elaine, Cassidy, and Werner); Suzanne Simmons (and her daughter Kayla); William Simmons (and his wife Europe); and Katherine Rose (and her husband Chris Rose, and their sons, Noah, Brooklyn, Gunner and Brody). He was also deeply loved by his uncles and aunts, Ray and Peggy Dalton, Paul and Bernadette Simmons, David Simmons, Dan and Diane Hayden, Tom and Kate Hayden, William and Marie Hayden, Jim and BettyAnn Hayden and Rich and Karin Hayden. Kevin is lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Susan Overson; brother-in-law, Michael Overson and his wife Kelly Lincoln, and their daughters Lyla and Nola; and his sister-in-law, Melissa McLaren and her husband Tim McLaren, and their children Josie and Finn.
Kevin grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He was kind and strong. Kevin treated everyone like they were family. He had time for you, he would help however he could, he was always grateful and he had a heart full of love. He cherished family vacations to Saco, Maine and Old Orchard Beach, where he created countless memories with his family. On weekends, he could often be found at Riverside Park with his sister, MaryKate, and their dad, Daniel. His wit often led to kindhearted teasing- just ask to see his mom’s Polish Pottery shirt. His sister, Lizzie, shares fond memories of the many weekends they spent together, just driving around, catching a movie, and grabbing lunch. Simple moments that became their special tradition. He introduced her to bands like Incubus, Weezer and Green Day telling her “You may not be into them yet, but you’ll appreciate this someday”.
Kevin was a hard worker from a young age, proudly starting his first job at Mount Tom at just 15 years old. He ran the food line with friends and MaryKate where he enjoyed being both big brother and the boss, a position his sister challenged daily with calls to their mom to complain he was being “too bossy”. Kevin loved to joke with MaryKate, even up until his last moments. Kevin was an experienced bartender who worked at UNO Pizzeria & Grill in Springfield for many years. He excelled at his job and had a talent for making friends with everyone he met. Kevin loved Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod and would love to catch live shows at the Woodshed, in Brewster MA. A passionate music lover, Kevin was an especially devoted fan of Phish and found joy in live shows with Lindsay, cousins, and friends. He was a die-hard sports fan who cheered for all the Boston teams and he proudly rooted for the Kansas Jayhawks. He was so proud to bring Liam to his first Red Sox game back in May. Kevin’s greatest joy was his family, especially his sunshine Lindsay and their son Liam. During his illness, Lindsay was his unwavering source of love, care, and strength. Her devotion, patience, and selflessness were extraordinary, and she cared for Kevin with a grace and compassion that inspired everyone who witnessed it. Together, they faced every challenge side by side with humor, honesty, and deep love. The way he loved Lindsay was something everyone could see.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the incredible caregivers and communities who supported Kevin throughout his journey. Mass General Hospital, Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice, Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS), and Kevin’s devoted friends Nick Cosmos, Zack Lyons, Matt FernandeZ, and Michael O’Hare. A special thank-you to his incredible hospice nurse, Sharon Beauchemin, for her compassion and dedication.
