Gerald (Jerry) Mazza passed away surrounded by the love of family on September 25, 2025 after a courageous battle with ALS at the age of 64.
Jerry was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend whose kindness, humor and sincerity touched all of us who knew him.
Jerry was a loving husband and best friend to Kim, his Lucy. Jerry adored his children, Jaclyn (Jackie) and her husband Jack, Katherine (Kati) and her husband Bryan and son Brian. Jerry was a beloved son of Sue Mazza and cherished brother of John Mazza and his wife Anne, and Kim Seggio and her husband Scott Goldman. He was predeceased by his father John, his father-in-law Bill Bernhard and his treasured brother-in-law Ron Seggio. Jerry spent his entire 40 plus year career as a News Producer at CBS News where his professionalism, patience and humor were legendary. He covered thousands of the biggest news, world and sporting events including 3 Olympics and 13 Super bowls. He was the recipient of a Writers Guild Award in 2025. Jerry was a proud graduate of McClancy High School and Marquette University.
Jerry’s love for baseball was lifelong. He was an avid Yankees fan. He enjoyed playing the game throughout his childhood and adulthood, first on his beloved Mutts softball team and later in life on the Over the Hill Gang team.
Jerry loved being around family and friends. He cherished the family and life he built with Kim. Travel, days at Long Beach, drinks at Ted’s Fishing Station and traveling to Italy and Europe brought him great joy.
His decency, integrity and authenticity were benchmarks of his essence. He without fail took the high road in life. He encouraged all he knew to do the same. He was the man who would drop everything to help a friend.
To know Jerry was to know kindness, generosity and humor. Those of us lucky enough to have are better for it.
