Edward Vito Kosinski, 67, of Fonda, NY. passed away peacefully at home on Friday July 4th, 2025, embraced by the love of his family after facing a courageous journey with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Born on December 29, 1957 in Amsterdam, NY, to Leo and Armida (DiBlasi) Kosinski, Ed lived a life marked by warmth, resilience, and unwavering optimism. Known for his ever-present smile and uplifting spirit, Ed touched the hearts of all who knew him. Even through the trials of ALS, he remained a source of strength and inspiration.
Ed’s early years in the West End of Amsterdam were filled with cherished memories and neighborly events in true Italian fashion, family bonds, and lifelong friendships. A talented athlete, he was a wrestler, cross country runner, and tennis player while attending Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in business administration from SUNY (State University of New York) at Utica/Rome. His professional journey led him to a successful accounting role at Dunn Geoscience where he won the President’s Award, Controller role at Spectra Environmental Group, and most recently retired from Creighton Manning Engineering as an Associate and Controller in Albany, NY where he left a strong impact.
Ed was a devoted part of Red Sox Nation. He participated in Amsterdam Recreation Programs such as City Night Softball, recreational softball, basketball and volleyball, and Little Giants football. He was also an enthusiastic collector and enjoyed attending garage sales to add to his various collections. He was a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as family trips to the beach at Cape Cod. Above all, he will be remembered for the love he gave and the legacy of kindness he leaves behind as a caretaker for family members in their final years.
He was predeceased by his beloved grandparents Eusebio and Carmella (Ottati) DiBlasi, Anthony and Helen Kosinski, his parents, his brother-in-law Brian Dietrick, and his Mother and Father-in-Law, Marlene Augustine and Armand (Augie) Augustine.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Lisa Augustine who provided him with unending care during his final years. He also leaves behind two treasured daughters: Kayla and her husband Josh Zaetz, & Paige Kosinski and her partner, Brendan Eskin. In January 2025, Ed’s heart was filled with new light with the birth of his first grandchild, Timothy Zaetz, who quickly became the joy of his life. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Michael (Amy) Augustine.
Ed is lovingly remembered by his sisters Lenora (Bob) Crook and Jennifer Dietrick, and their sons Andrew Crook (Mary Lawrence), Jonathan Crook (Kirsten Chang), and Erik Dietrick.
Through even the most challenging days of ALS, Ed was faithfully accompanied by his beloved senior fur buddy, Louca, who through his own struggles was a constant source of comfort, joy, and unwavering love who never left his side.
Edward Vito Kosinski lived with purpose, love, and integrity. His light will continue to shine in the lives of those he so dearly loved. The family wishes to thank Dr. George Weis for his unwavering concern, care and compassion throughout Ed’s Journey with ALS. Thank you also to his caregivers, first his daughters, Kayla and Paige. Also thank you to Wanda Holt, Sheree Kretser, Samantha Pabis, Roxanne Vecchio, Missy Horning and Jessica Marotta and neighbors Susan Casler and Brandon Ambrosino.
Services for Ed will be on Saturday, July 12th, 2025 at 12:00 noon at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam NY. with Father Juanito Asprec of St. Cecilia’s Church, Fonda, presiding. Ed’s visitation will be Saturday prior to the funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery (Sandflats), Martin Rd., Fonda, NY.
