Courtney Dawn Hebert Phinney, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend died peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 29, 2025. Born in New Iberia on September 2, 1976, she was the daughter of Dr. Harold James “Jim” and Brenda Jacobs Hebert.
Courtney is survived by her husband Frank Phinney and their sons, whom she cherished beyond measure, Graham and Jack, her siblings Dr. Jay Hebert of Lafayette, Michelle Hebert Chustz of Lafayette and Rebecca Hebert of Dallas. She was a loving aunt to Destin Hebert, Elijah (Eli) Hebert and Gabriel (Gabe) Chustz. She is preceded in death by her mother.
She graduated from Catholic High School of New Iberia in 1994 and University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2004. She enjoyed a long career at Morgan Stanley in Baton Rouge.
Courtney’s dry sense of humor kept everyone entertained. Her joyful laugh was contagious. Courtney was always well-dressed – sporting her stylish glasses and signature emerald green. No one could make a better pot of red beans and rice. She loved spending time with friends and chatting all night. Courtney and Frank were devoted fans of the Dave Mathews Band and traveled all over the country to their shows, eventually bringing the boys along for the adventures.
Courtney was a very determined person. Her resolve was evident in her fight against ALS, even on her last day. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Team Gleason, especially Kelly Viator, Compassionate Care ALS, Paul and Carolyn Hebert, Mary Francis Hebert, Richard and Scotty Hebert, Andre Hebert and Magellan Construction, Lori DeBliux, Nella Haile, Emily and Scott Hebert, Angelique Manne, Ako VanDevander and the rest of the team at Morgan Stanley, Liz Lejeune, Virginia Nugent, Latisha Blanchard, Rebecca and Ben Reid, Krystal Lewis, the Bronco Tailgate crew, Jaynie O’Quinn, DMB and Red Light Management, and the Zachary community for lifting the family up in a multitude of ways. Our deepest gratitude goes to loving caregivers Donna Holman, Jenny Bowling, Lynette Allen, Cathy Taylor and Deona Carter.
A memorial service will be held on June 14, 2025 at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary from 2 to 4 pm. A reception will follow at Fennwood Country Club from 4 to 6 pm. In lieu of flowers to honor Courtney, please consider a donation to Team Gleason, Compassionate Care ALS or Zachary Charity League.
