Cathy A. Silverman, 55, of Salem, NH, and formerly of Maui, HI, passed away after a long, brave battle against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

She grew up and was educated in Salem, NH, graduating from Salem High School, Class of 1986. Cathy earned a B.A. in International Affairs from Mary Washington College in VA and a M.F.A. in Music from the California Institute for the Arts.

Cathy was an online Professor with the American Public University and Southern New Hampshire University, which allowed her to pursue her dreams of worldwide travel and exploration, focusing on the preservation of indigenous music and culture. She shared her knowledge while teaching anthropology, music, world religion, myth and ritual.

As a grant recipient of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc. and the American Public University System, Cathy worked and collaborated with musicians and artists around the world including Indonesia, Africa, Siberia, and India. Cathy was also the co-founder of the Nada Brahma Foundation, whose projects included research and video documentation in Mexico, Guatemala, the Hopi reservation in Arizona, Ghana, and Indonesia.

Cathy will be profoundly missed by her sister, Lisa Morris and husband Andre of Salem, NH, who had the honor of caring for her, her cat, Oliver, several aunts and cousins, along with countless beloved friends around the world. She was predeceased by her devoted parents, Barbara and Kenneth Silverman.

Cathy had a wonderfully kind, loving and generous spirit, along with unmatched resilience and spark. Her final wish was to urge people to reach out to help those in need.
