Paul F. Eno, 71, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Jaclyn (Blackmon) Eno. Born in Hartford, CT, on March 30, 1953, Paul was the son of the late Earl B. and Bernice S. (Landers) Eno. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Jonathan Eno and Benjamin Eno, and his daughter-in-law, Marian Eno. He was the brother of the late Rev. Robert B. Eno, P.S.S..
Paul was one of the first paranormal investigators of the early 1970s, a venture that began with his discernment of the Roman Catholic priesthood. He acquired his associate of arts degree at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT, and his bachelor of philosophy degree at Wadhams Hall Seminary College in Ogdensburg, NY. He completed postgraduate work at Trinity College in Hartford, CT and St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary. During that time, he met the “grandparents of ghost hunting”, Ed and Lorraine Warren. He was a central figure in the Bridgeport, CT poltergeist case of 1974.
Paul was a veteran, serving in the Coast Guard Reserves from 1983 to 1989. He led a photographic intelligence team in the wake of Operation Urgent Fury in the Caribbean Sea from 1983 to 1984.
Over the next 40 years, Paul became an award-winning newspaper and magazine journalist. He began his professional career as a books series editor for Warbrooke Publishing Ltd. in Montreal. He also worked as a staff writer for the Pawtuxet Valley Daily Times in West Warwick, RI, as a managing editor for Observer Publications in Greenville, RI, and as a news editor for the Providence Journal. Paul was the editor of the Rhode Island Builder, an award-winning magazine covering residential construction, and he also owned Barking Cat Books/New River Press, a company that provided writing services, audio and visual production, and e-publishing for area businesses. He was a member, former board director, and treasurer of the Rhode Island Press Association, from which he received two Best Editorial of the Year Awards. He was a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the Association of Rhode Island Authors.
His interest in the paranormal was always at the forefront of his mind. Since 2005, Paul and his son Ben have investigated countless hauntings, poltergeist activities, UFOs, and unexplained animals. The two launched their own radio show, “Behind the Paranormal with Paul and Ben Eno”, and it became an internationally-known broadcast. CBS Radio acquired the radio show from 2009 to 2014, and later, the broadcast continued weekly on WOON 1240 AM and 99.5 FM until January of 2024. The show is estimated to have a global audience of three million listeners. Paul and Ben presented their interactive programs on the paranormal across America and Europe. Paul served on the Research Committee of the Consciousness and Contact Research Institute. Ben and Paul co-authored two books, Behind the Paranormal: Everything You Know Is Wrong and Behind the Paranormal 2: Bigfoot, Mothman, and Monsters You Never Heard Of. In addition, Paul authored five other books on his own.
Paul was an avid community historian; he served as the vice chairman of the Cumberland Historic District Commission. The History Channel featured Paul in “The States” series, and the Discovery and Travel Channels featured him in various programs as well. He co-authored the book Rhode Island: A Genial History, which is used as a reference source in several area high schools. He served on the board of directors for the New England Confederation and the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council. Paul received a medal from the Rhode Island Historical Society in 1987 in recognition of his contributions to literature on the state’s 350th anniversary. In 2019, he received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award for his appearance in ‘Who’s Who in America’ for 30 years.
To know Paul was to love Paul. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He was kind, generous, and hilariously funny. He knew just about anything you asked him about. He loved collecting flags, model railroading, boating, horseback riding, and target shooting. You could always find him feeding a neighborhood cat or admiring nature in his backyard. He loved ice cream, canned tuna, and hot dogs. He emphasized gratitude to God in every circumstance, and demonstrated this belief in his everyday life. Paul was full of beautiful, interesting stories, and every get together with him was full of laughter and memories. He will be incredibly missed.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Service on Thursday at 6:00 PM in the Holy Dormition Orthodox Church, 71 Manville Hill Road, Cumberland. Visiting hours will be held from 3:30 – 5:30 PM in the church, prior to the Service.
The burial will be private.
