Dr. William “Bill” Patrick Dobbin, DMD, of Boston, Massachusetts, died peacefully at home on February 23, 2024 at the age of 73 after losing his tough battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
He was born August 25, 1950 in Queens, New York and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut to the late William and Marie Dobbin.
He is survived by a loving family, including his two children: son, Brendan Dobbin of Somerville, Massachusetts; daughter, Kerryn Dobbin (Spencer Desrochers) of Hooksett, New Hampshire; his partner: Emma Cataldi of South Hamilton, Massachusetts and three siblings: James (Lori) Dobbin of Newport, Rhode Island; Pamela (John) Purvis of Middletown, Rhode Island; and Debra (Jay) Tully of Dover, New Hampshire.
Following Bill’s graduation in 1968 from Northwest Catholic High School, he graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1972. He then went on to receive his Masters in Business Administration from Rutgers University, where he focused on becoming an accountant. However, it was not too long before Bill decided that his true calling lay somewhere further away from corporate boardrooms and went to pursue his true passion in dentistry. In 1980, Bill graduated with his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
He established a private practice out of Manchester, New Hampshire where he was an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for over 30 years. He was recognized year after year in “Best of New Hampshire” as a top-notch surgeon in the state. Bill regularly took trips with Healing the Children to North and South America correcting cleft lips and palates for those less fortunate – this was Bill’s opportunity to utilize his skills to give back to the community, and he did so unwaveringly. These philanthropic ventures were where he gained the most satisfaction in his career. He cared for each patient that he met; whether in his own office or the children he met on his medical missions.
After retirement, he transitioned from scalpel to pencil strokes. He tapped into his artistic side and took classes at the Academy of Realist Art Boston where he enjoyed using his, as he liked to say, “other side of the brain after all these years”. When Bill wasn’t working, he enjoyed staying active by partaking in CrossFit, hitting the slopes, and golfing. He loved to travel around the world with his friends and family to experience new places, challenge himself athletically, and explore different cuisines. While he loved being on the go, he also enjoyed relaxing at home, catching up with his favorite sport teams, and reading the Wall Street Journal daily. He will always be remembered for his bright smile, kind eyes, and love of helping everyone around him.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4:00 M to 8:00PM at J.S. Waterman Langone Chapel at 580 Commercial Street, Boston, MA. The funeral will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 with a Mass at 10:00AM in Saint Leonard Catholic Church on 320 Hanover Street in Boston. Burial will follow at Hamilton Cemetery at 623 Bay Road, Hamilton, MA.
