Eileen J. Minkley, age 87, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late John and Catherine Shea, and was a graduate of the former Saint Jerome High School. Eileen worked for many years at the MA Registry of Motor Vehicles, greeting customers with her warm smile and never-ending resourcefulness. She was a communicant of Saint Jerome Parish in Holyoke. Eileen truly enjoyed every bit of life, but what really made her heart full was simply being around loved ones. Eileen was known for her energy and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need, contributing to a tight-knit community that supported one another. Always on the go, Eileen had a passion for swimming and dancing. She loved to travel, including a memorable trip to visit family in Ireland and organizing many group cruises with family and friends. She and her husband spent winters soaking up the sun in Florida. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Edward W. Minkley; daughter, Maureen Peters of Mashpee; son, Steven Minkley and his wife Amy Irving of Centerville; grandchildren: Kathleen and Shannon Peters and Jack Minkley; great-grandchildren, Saoirse and Raisa; sisters, Sr. Mary Shea and Sr. Kathleen Imbruno of Holyoke, and Kathleen Fitzsimmons of Bluffton, SC; brother, John Shea of Port Charlotte, FL, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 23rd from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Eileen on Saturday, February 24th at 10:00 am in Saint Jerome Church, 169 Hampden Street, Holyoke; please meet directly at the church. The burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care ALS.
