Mr. Peter A. Macaulay, aged 77, a long-time resident of Bellingham, passed away peacefully at his home on February 2, 2024, after a valiant battle with ALS. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on August 9, 1946, Peter was a modest man of remarkable intelligence, analytical prowess, and boundless creativity.

Peter graduated from the University of Manchester with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and later earned his Master’s Degree from Brunel University in Computer Science. His academic achievements laid the groundwork for what would become a distinguished career.

Peter was a talented network architect. His tenure at Dell/EMC for the past 19 years was a testament to his skill and dedication to the industry. His talents were instrumental in the advancements made at Data General, Telematics and other companies, both local and international. Peter’s colleagues knew him as a man who could always be relied upon for his sharp insights and the elegance of his technical solutions.

In 1978, Peter’s spirit of adventure brought him across the Atlantic to the United States, where he made his home in Bellingham, MA. His love for exploration never waned, from piloting small aircraft to sailboats, hiking in the mountains of Ireland, New England, and Japan, he was always eager to embrace new cultures and experiences.

A man of diverse interests, Peter enjoyed watching the mysteries of life unfold in his garden, started from seed. The flowers and plants he nurtured were a source of immense pleasure, a natural reflection of his nurturing spirit.

Music resonated deeply with Peter, an accomplished musician on guitar, flute, and wire-strung harp. He played with the same precision, passion, and grace he applied to every aspect of his life. His love for the harp led him to become an active member and former editor of the Pioneer Valley Harp Guild, where he shared his joy with fellow enthusiasts.

Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Elsje Macaulay, who stood by his side with unwavering love and support. His memory will be cherished by his sister, Sharon Small and her husband Wilson; along with his nieces Erin, and her husband Philip, Anita, Lauren, and her partner Richard, Marianne, Suzanne and her partner Wouter; his grandnieces and nephews Jack, Ruby, Molly, Austin, Ozzy, Laurie, and Marcus; as well as everyone he mentored and encouraged in his life.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, February 9, 2024 from 4 – 6 PM in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress Street, Milford with remembrances being offered at 5:45 PM. Friends of the family are invited to dinner following the remembrance.
