Old Silver Swim Supports ALS Group

Swimmers begin the one-mile swim event at the 13th annual David’s Old Silver Swim, held on August 12 in North Falmouth.

More than 250 swimmers participated in the 13th annual David’s Old Silver Swim on August 12 in North Falmouth. Hosted by the Sea Crest Beach Hotel, the race supports the work of Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS) and honors local dentist David Garber, a 15-year ALS survivor. Mr. Garber was on hand to meet with swimmers and spectators.

Swimmers this year ranged in age from 9 to 83. Ian Rice and Dylan Woodhead tied for the fastest time in the mile at 22:53, with Timothy Johnson coming in third at 22:58. Maya Williams (23:50) and Jaquelyn Shroyer (25:19) were the top two female finishers.

In the half-mile race, Sam Raynor was the top finisher at 14:04 and 13-year-old Dakota Callahan (14:51) was the top female.

At the other end of the age spectrum was Blanche Seifer, who at age 98 won the “spirit award,” given to the person who embodies the essence of the love of swimming and an indefatigable spirit.

The 14th annual swim will be held on August 10, 2024.
