The CCALS Heald Center
Education, Retreat, and Sanctuary

“The Heald Center is an extension of the CCALS philosophy, it’s all about compassion.”

Retreat-hero

The CCALS Heald Center, Education, Retreat, and Sanctuary is a place like no other for individuals living with ALS and caregivers alike. Completed in 2019, the Center retains the natural beauty and scenic vistas of the existing landscape to encourage interaction in the form of quiet contemplation, reflection, and meditation.

The Center has two fully handicapped accessible suites with adjoining rooms for family members. There are suites as well as dormitory style rooms to provide respite for caregivers. Accommodations for individuals with early stage ALS are also available. The facility has a community kitchen as well as a yoga studio, sauna, lounge and library area.

History

Retreat-outside

CCALS purchased the historic Beach Rose Inn at 17 Chase Road, West Falmouth, Massachusetts in 2015. The oldest part of the main structure was built in 1863, and a cottage and a carriage house were added to the property during the 20th century. These structures are nestled in a beautifully serene setting that includes mature trees, gardens, ponds, terraced decks, and a fire pit.

CCALS spent three years restoring the property, improving, and upgrading the property to make it accessible for our guests while respecting the historic character of both the interior and exterior. All renovations used sustainable building practices. We thank our astounding CCALS community for supporting the purchase and renovation of The Heald Center.
