Patrick Fitzgerald Hawe died at home on July 10, 2023, surrounded by family and some of his closest friends, from complications of ALS, a disease he rarely complained of, except to ask ‘Why did I get a disease named after a Yankee?!” Pat lived his life true to himself, with the courage of his convictions and a loving family he continues to watch over. A Master Plumber, he ran his own plumbing and heating business, networking with friends who were doing the same. Pat’s final wishes were to be in his home in Harwich with dignity, and we are forever grateful we were able to make this come true for him.

If you ever had the pleasure (and time,) to talk with Pat, you knew when he spoke (especially about politics, a favorite subject, second only to his son) he could back up his position with facts, and could have been the star of any debate team. But he was an excellent listener, as well, often sharing little phrases that carried great weight, including ‘’hearing is a sense, but listening is a skill.” He was filled with words of wisdom, and learned by devouring newspapers, always making sure to read both sides of an argument from various sources on either side of the aisle before reaching conclusions.

Pat lived a selfless lifestyle, always putting others before himself with no need for recognition or gratitude, only simply because it’s the right thing to do. He devoted countless hours of his life to coaching his son’s various sports teams over the years, from early youth through high school years, sticking around to continue helping even after his own son grew older and went off to college. Some memories that come to mind that reflect these efforts are the many times Pat would hang around after baseball games to rake the infield. Pat would go above and beyond just so the kids could have a nice field to play on. He loved watching his son and friends play ball on the same fields he once dominated as a multi-sport athlete himself not so long ago.

Pat was born on Governors Island, New York, with his twin Michael on September 17, 1959. He was predeceased by his parents, Col. Donald W. Hawe, M.D., Helen (Fitzgerald) Hawe, and brothers Michael F. Hawe and Robert F. Hawe. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Cox and son, Patrick; sister Patricia Capistron and husband Mike and family; brother William Hawe and wife Charlene and family, and brother John Hawe and his family, along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many good friends.
