Nancy J. Poon of Wakefield, RI passed away peacefully at home Thursday, April 13, after a courageous battle with ALS. Nancy and her husband of 45 years, Alan Poon, raised two extraordinary children, their son Jesse and daughter Delaney, and were fortunate enough to see them grow and prosper into wonderful, caring and kind adults whose love and devotion sustained Nancy and Alan throughout this long and difficult journey.

Nancy was also blessed to have the support and love of her mother, Joan Scanlon, and sisters MaryAnn Fisher, Holly Gallipeau and Erin Scanlon, as well as guiding hands from above from her deceased father and brother, Robert Scanlon and Bobby Scanlon, during her battle. And battle she did! Nancy faced each new struggle and challenge head-on, without hesitation or complaint. She grabbed every ounce of joy from each moment and found pleasure in the most simple of things – inspiring her incredible number of friends and relatives with her indomitable spirit, courage, humor and amazing grace.

A marathoner, triathlete, world traveler, avid gardener, outdoor enthusiast, dancer, voracious reader – her interests were eclectic and numerous, and her talents deep and varied. She had reason to be proud of all she accomplished in her too brief life, but nothing made her prouder than her two children. She was a wonderful friend, but an even more amazing mother and wife; a rock for her family to lean against and the foundation they built their lives on. Nancy will be missed – she is missed – by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She was a shining star whose light will never be extinguished, and the world was a better place with her in it. And while the vessel that carried her remarkable spirit in this life is gone, we can all take solace in knowing she has finally broken free from the chains of this terrible disease, and is swimming again in calm waters, running along the sand, and sipping her coffee drink in the warm sun.

Funeral services for Nancy will be private.
