Margaret “Peggy” Jones passed away peacefully at her home, after a courageous battle with ALS, surrounded by her four boys, husband, daughters in-law, grandchildren and her best friend/sister Cathy.

Margaret “Peggy” Jones was born in Boston to the late John and Dorothy Loughlin. She was the third of nine children. Peggy lived her early years in Dorchester and attended St. John’s Parochial School. During her teenage years, the family moved to Rockland, where she would go on to graduate from Rockland High School class of 1970. After high school Peggy attended North Adams State, graduating in 1975 with a degree in education.

In 1984, Peggy married the love of her life David. Peggy and David lived in Hanover at the time and in less than 3 years they had four boys, Adam, Robert, Patrick, and Kevin. Peggy’s children were the light of her life. Peggy devoted her whole life to her children. Peggy and David eventually moved to Marshfield to raise their family. When Peggy’s kids were getting close to high school age, she decided to work at Marshfield High School and began a 20-year career in the Marshfield Public School system.

Peggy lived her life as a kind, caring person. She always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed traveling and her best trait was that she always found the good in people. She was the centerpiece of her family. Peggy loved to entertain and had a different outfit for every occasion. Peggy enjoyed hosting her giant family for Christmas Eve at her house in Marshfield.

Peggy loved nothing more than spending her summers at her beach cottage on Saquish Beach. Peggy always extended an open invitation to friends and family to spend time on the beach. She could be found on the beach, sunbathing in her chair while taking a nap, often surrounded by one of her siblings, who was also sound asleep. In her later years, Peggy spent her winters in Venice, Florida, where she enjoyed walking the beaches of Manasota Key on a daily basis.

Peggy’s greatest strength was shown through her courageous battle with ALS. Through all the ups and many downs of the disease, she never once complained. She attacked the disease just how she lived the rest of her life, with a smile on her face. She was able to enjoy unlimited amounts of ice cream and have her grandchildren bring her endless joy. She was blessed with the news of the first Jones girl, due to arrive this September. Her final lesson to pass along was that through grace and courage you can make the best of any situation. She will be missed dearly.

Peggy leaves her husband, David Jones of Plymouth; sons Adam Jones and his wife Emily of Plymouth, Robert Jones and his wife Courtney Park of Kingston, Patrick Jones and his wife Jill McCoy of Norwell, and Kevin Jones of Tampa, FL; grandchildren JJ, Fin, Max, and Sonny; siblings Dorothy DelPrete and her husband Doug, John Loughlin and his wife Janet, Cathy Stewart and her husband Bill, Edward Loughlin and his wife Doreen, Janice Finnin, Paul Loughlin and his wife Andrea, Nancy Amaral and her husband Peter, Patricia Lucas and her husband Scott, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service and burial in the Couch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Compassionate Care ALS, by mail to P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574 and online at: https://ccals.org/
